install CS-MARS 20 on vmware

install CS-MARS 20 on vmware
Instructions for installing CS-MARS 4.2.x (model 20, others should be similar) in
VMWare.

The procedure is written for MARS 4.2.x (checked with csmars-4.2.7.2521.iso), there are
some differences in 5.x.

Information provided is for local controller, didn’t try global controller installation
(needs different emulated HW, I think model 20 is enough for learning purposes)…

VMWare version I used was VMWare Server 1.0.3 for Linux, but it should probably work with
other versions as well.

Create new virtual machine in VMWare, based on Red Hat Linux (follow the IPS guide - remove
floppy, 512 MB RAM is enough, …), just make sure you use 120 GB IDE 0:0 hard disk and
CDROM IDE 0:1, two ethernet adapters. Close VMWare console, open file describing virtual
machine and add the following two lines:

ethernet0.virtualDev = “e1000″
ethernet1.virtualDev = “e1000″

Point CD to iso image (I tried with csmars-4.2.7.2521.iso and csmars-4.2.6.2458.iso, they
both work the same).

Run the machine, choose local controller, model 20, wait, reboot, wait, wait, wait, wait
until login prompt appears (oracle install takes a lot of time).

Login with pnadmin/pnadmin, change password, set IP address (with “ifconfig eth0 x.x.x.x m.m.m.m”,
x.x.x.x is IP, m.m.m.m is mask, machine reboots).

While virtual machine is starting (when you see output of VMWare BIOS), hold down Shift key (if
it says Keyboard stuck, press F1 to continue). Now you got to the LILO prompt, quickly press some
key (”a” would be fine) - if you don’t press anything, machine boots in a second or two…
Now that you have time, write “linux rw init=/bin/bash” (without quotation marks) and press
Enter. When you are in the shell, write the following commands:
HP0-095
HP0-P16
HP0-X01
—————–
mount /dev/hda5 /opt
cd /opt/janus/release/bin
mv pnlicense pnlicense.org
echo “/bin/echo d84f7ceaf50f9c45683e2efb77752d4f:License verified:4:0:0:4″ > pnlicense
chmod +x pnlicense
cd
umount /opt
—————–

Double check the echo command for typing errors!

Reboot the virtual machine (or power it off and on again).

Go to your browser, login with pnadmin account, enter any license (numbers are OK) and you should
be presented with a working CS-MARS20 installation.
